South Kenwood Residence

This private residence takes its place in Chicago's Kenwood landmark district, responding to its context without resorting to historic devices. Exterior materials of Roman brick and limestone trim take cues from nearby houses by notable Chicago architects including Frank Lloyd Wright, George Maher and Howard Van Doren Shaw. The house is raised a half level and features a front stair tower that gestures prominently toward the street. The building also includes a dining terrace overlooking the garden and high ceilings to accommodate the owner's art collection. The South Kenwood Residence received the 2002 Distinguished Building Award from AIA-Chicago.
